What is EFT?
Body and mind are one. From this perspective, just as you can heal your body and ease illnesses by developing emotional awareness and managing stress, in the opposite direction you can find relief from stress, anxiety, and pain by acting on your body. And, even though there are many ways to do it, with EFT is very practical, as you learn key energetic points to tap on combined with basic NLP resources.
This said, EFT is an easy and natural way to hack your body and mind’s health, and the best of all, is that you can apply it to yourself!
Origins of EFT
The beginnings of the EFT appeared in the 1970s thanks to Doctors George Goodheart, John Diamond, and Roger Callahan. They got inspired by Eastern Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. This way, they found out how by tapping on specific energetic points (without using needles) you could help people unblock emotions and thus heal psychological ailments. It was first called Thought Field Therapy. Yet, despite being effective, resulted to be quite complex to apply and required too many hours of training.
Almost 2 decades later, Gary Craig, a student of Dr. Callahan, who was also a Master of NLP, found how to simplify the method. He did so by using less energetic points and integrating resources from NLP. And that is how EFT was born as we know it today.

Which results can I expect from EFT Therapy?
Most people who come out from an EFT therapy end up with all or most of the following changes:
- Regain vitality: Thanks to EFT, energy flows again. This includes energy channels you may have blocked for several years and you didn’t even remember how it felt to free them.
- A clear mind: facing blocked emotions and repeating positive and powerful thoughts helps you clear your mind and connect to your intuition.
- Increased self-confidence and emotional intelligence: After experiencing the power of mind over body, many people feel inspired to keep healing consciously.
- Healing the expected problem and/or others: sometimes EFT can release other emotional blocks that complement or enhance the expected effect of the session.
Can I apply EFT to myself or others?
Yes. I love guiding patients into a better and healthier life. As a holistic practitioner, I’ll always be willing to keep doing so, either with EFT or with any of the other therapeutic resources I offer. Yet, it’s even better when you also get them empowered with the resources they need to take care of themselves and grow spiritually. Smiles and happiness in many patients and students after achieving this is priceless.
In this regard, the EFT is a blessing. This is because even people with short or no experience in energy healing or holistic therapies can afford to get fast and remarkable results through its application to themselves and others.
Step-by-Step Guide for an EFT therapy
The basics for the application of EFT therapy consist of the following steps.
Before starting the tapping therapy
Consider this setup or precautions when practicing EFT for better safety and efficacy:
- Ambient: Find a nice and quiet place for the practice, so you can focus entirely on it.
- Stay hydrated: When practicing tapping, you’re working on your electromagnetic field and energy channels. Water improves conductivity, thus increasing the effectiveness of the tapping.
- Remove all metallic things from your body: They may disturb the effect of the practice on your energetic field.
- Open your heart to the process: This technique requires you to connect to your soul and be honest with yourself.
- Be specific: Be clear with yourself about the problem you need to address. The better single-focused you are when practicing the EFT, the better results you’ll get.
Basics steps for practicing EFT
- Focus on the problem or anything that bothers you: It may be a current problem in any aspect of your life, anxiety for a future event, or any resentment or stored emotion. Choose well and remember to be as specific as possible.
- Give it a score from 1 to 10: once you’ve selected the source of stress you want to work on, give it a score according to its severity level. That is, how much it is affecting you. 1 is if the problem is too mild and 10 for traumas and very intense blocked emotions.
- Create the phrase: Now you create a concise phrase in which you acknowledge the problem, while accepting yourself despite that. For example: “Even though I have this [problem or stress], I completely love and accept myself”.
- Tapping the “Karate Chop” energetic point: Now you proceed with the first pressure point, Tap on the “Karate chop” energetic point, placed in the middle of the edge or outer side of the hand. Do it as you repeat loud the phrase you prepared in the previous stage.
- The tapping sequence: Once you’re done with the Karate Chop point, proceed to tap the resting 11 energetic POINTS.
- Check out and score again: Once you’re done with the tapping stage, stop and take a deep breath. Then, observe the stress or problems you evoked for the practice. Perceive how much contrast you feel now. How better do you feel? Score its intensity, which should be less than at the beginning of the session.
- Repeat until the intensity score reaches “0”: EFT can be repeated as much as needed to achieve the “0” score. “0” will represent the complete healing or alleviation of such stress. If you feel the process needs time or you want to complement it with other therapies, that’s fine too.
